Modern Day Hero VS. Anglo-Saxon Hero :: Comparison Compare Contrast Essays

Current Hero VS. Somewhat English Saxon Hero During the Anglo-Saxon period, individuals loved Hero's. Here are two or three different ways how a current saint can be contrasted with one before. Nolan Ryan will be my decision of an exemplary cutting edge legend. One of the firsts of a legend's trademark is that he performs Remarkable Deeds. On page thirty-five in Beowulf Higlac's daring supporter detaching his hand of the beast, his scorn ascended higher however his capacity has gone. So to me that could be called a remarkable deed. Presently Nolan Ryan isn't a War saint yet a baseball player. He was forty-five at that point and he had tossed 5,511 strikeouts, witch is a record that won't be broken at any point in the near future. Another approach to be known as a legend is to give extraordinary discourses. On page 31 of Beowulf Hail Hrothagi............. Beowulf is generally excellent at this however then again Nolan Ryan is an unassuming man. So he never truly gave discourses. The third quality of a saint is to gloat about his accomplishments. Beowulf works admirably of gloating in this next line in Beowulf on page 31, And I am more grounded than anybody on the planet. To me that is an exceptionally large brag on Beowulf's part. Presently for Nolan Ryan he is an unobtrusive man and never had any motivation to gloat about anything, his numbers did the talking for him. Presently the remainder of the of qualities that will be that he slipped from Royalty. Presently on page 31 in Beowulf, Higlac is my cousin and my King. Now then again Nolan Ryan's situation in baseball had nothing to do with his family. He was noticing in excess of a nation kid from Alvin, Texas. Presently those were normal for an Anglo-Saxon legend that are totally different from those of an advanced saint. The first of them is if the Public eye enjoys the saint to be modest and have great sportsmanship. Nolan Ryan never circumvented provoking his rivals or discussing how great he is. Yet, then again Beowulf talked profoundly of himself. I don't figure general society would have loved that particularly about him. Another quality of a cutting edge saint is his appearance. Nolan was a gorgeous person. He did wrangler pants advertisements. He likewise did TV advertisements for Advil.

5 Benefits of Soft Credit Check Loans

5 Benefits of Soft Credit Check Loans 5 Benefits of Soft Credit Check Loans 5 Benefits of Soft Credit Check LoansWith a soft credit check loan, youre likely to see lower rates than you would with a no credit check loanâ€"and it might even help your credit score!???????If you have bad credit, then you’re probably familiar with no credit check loans. These are a type of bad credit loan that doesn’t perform any sort of credit check when you apply. The most common kinds of no credit check loans include payday loans, title loans, and cash advances. But there’s another kind of bad credit loan you should know: Soft credit check loans. This is a category that includes many of the bad credit installment loans available to folks whose low scores lock them out from traditional lenders. There are many benefits to soft credit check loans, some of which they share with no credit check loans, but also some that make them an improvement on their no credit check cousins. If you have bad credit and need money to cover a surprise expense, heres what you need to know.1. The y’re easy and fast!If you’ve ever applied for a personal loan from a bank or other traditional lender, you know that the process is not speedy. Once you’ve entered in all your informationâ€"and they’ll ask for a lot itâ€"you’ll still have to wait days before you receive a decision.Soft credit check loans, on the other hand, are easy to apply for. While performing a soft credit checkâ€"and sometimes an income verificationâ€"requires more information than a no credit check application, it’s still something that you can complete very quickly. And once you submit your application, you’re likely to get a decision in a matter of minutes or hours, not days. When you’re dealing with something like an unexpected car repair or medical bill, this sort of easy application lets you get back to focusing on what really matters. And if you’re approved, you’ll get your funds quickly. Sometimes you can even receive your funds the same day, but oftentimes you’ll receive them by the next business day. Still, that’s much faster than traditional lenders and gets you the money you need when you need it: Now.2. Applying won’t affect your credit. When you apply for a traditional personal loan, the lender is going to run a hard check on your credit. This returns them a full copy of your credit report and lets them do a deep dive on your history as a borrower. Hard checks are recorded on your report and they’ll temporarily lower your score.Soft credit checks, on the other hand, are not recorded on your credit report and do not affect your score. This is because they return less information than a hard check, giving lenders a broad overview of your credit history instead of a comprehensive reporting. With traditional loans, getting your application denied is doubly frustrating: Not only do you not get the money you need, but your score has been lowered. With soft credit check loans, however, there is no downside. Even if your application for credit is denied, your score won’t take a hit!3. They come with lower rates.Soft credit check loans are still a type of bad credit loan, so their rates are going to be higher than standard personal loans. There’s really no way around it. Borrowers with bad credit default at higher rates, so these lenders have to charge higher interest rates in return to protect against potential loss. But since soft credit check loans do their due diligence on applicants and turn down borrowers who can’t afford to repay (more on why that’s a good thing in the next section), their default rates are naturally lower than no credit check lenders. What this means for you is simple: Soft credit check lenders often charge lower rates than no credit check lenders! Lower rates mean that you save money over the life of the loan, and they also lower your risk of getting trapped in an ongoing cycle of debt.4. They check your ability to repay. When you take out a loanâ€"no matter if its an online loan or one from a brick-and-mor tar institutionâ€"you want to be able to pay it back. Otherwise, you’ll end up with negative marks on your score and a debt collector hounding you for payments. You could even end up in court with your wages getting garnished! With no credit check loans, the likelihood of this happening is much higher because the lender doesn’t do anything to check whether or not you can afford the loan you’re trying to borrow. In many cases, no credit check lenders stand to make more money from their customers not paying their loans off the first time. When borrowers are forced to roll over their loan or take out another loan immediately after paying off their old one, that means more money for the lender. But with soft credit check loans, lenders will not loan money to someone that they estimate can’t afford the loan. This is why these loans are less likely to trap borrowers in an ongoing cycle of debt: Because these lenders care about their customers paying off their loan the first time, not the fifth.5. Some can help your credit. With a no credit check loan, the only way you’re going to see your credit score affected is if you default on the loan and it ends up as a collections account. In other words, the only way for your score to go with a loan like this is down. But some soft credit check lenders (including OppLoans) actually report payment information to the credit bureaus that create your credit reports. This means that on-time payments will go on your report and could help improve your score.Your payment history is the most important part of your credit score, making up 35 percent of your total. As such, good payment history is critical to maintaining a  good credit score or fixing a lousy one. And these soft credit check loans give you the opportunity to build better credit.Soft credit check loans aren’t a silver bullet by any means. But the right loan can be a great tool to help you address a financial shortfall. And the best soft credit check loans can ev en help you to start building a brighter financial future. To learn more about improving your credit and your financial outlook, check out  these other posts and articles from OppLoans:How to Raise Your Credit Score by 100 PointsBuilding Your Financial Life: Budgeting for BeginnersSave More Money with These 40 Expert Tips10 Good Money Habits to Make Your Friends JealousDo you have a personal finance question youd like us to answer? Telemachus Odyssey Essays - Greek Mythology, Odyssey,

Telemachus' Odyssey Telemachus' Odyssey The Odyssey, though named for the great warrior and story focus Odysseus, cannot be soley regarded as a single man's journey. The growth in intellect, maturity, and strength the Odysseus undergoes is reflected distinctly in his son, Telemachus. In the first books, other characters continue to treat him much as a child, and in many respects, Telemachus still acts like one. The first few books illustrate the relationship between Telemachus and his father, a father he has barely known. When Odysseus left his wife and child, Telemachus was still an infant. For his want of a father, Athena acts as a mentor to him; particularly when she gives him the courage to journey from his home in search of his father. Had he not the courage here, he could not have stood against the suitors' wills in the final books. Telemachus's emotional growth is key to the paralleling storylines. When Menelaus mentions his father, the young Telemachus breaks down in tears, betraying his immaturity. However, the pride he feels leaving Sparta hints at the courage he shows in later books, aiding Odysseus against the suitors. Odysseus faces a similar situation. He, like Telemachus, worries about his family ? Penelope in particular ? and kingdom, possibly triggered by Proteus' mention of Agamemnon, who was killed by his own wife. The titular hero of this epic romance laments his seeming fate and the deaths of his crew, but continues with the courage and hope of reaching home. It seems that Odysseus learns little, unlike Telemachus, but not by any fault of his own, I think. He may simply be the epitome of Greek standards, clever and noble as he often is, and actually has little room to grow. For Telemachus, the goals he sets reflect the maturity he gains: to reach a level of adulthood and to stand by his father's side, to protect his family and kingdom, and most importantly, to be respected as a man. At the story's onset, Telemachus can bee seen as an inactive young prince. When the challenges rise, however, Telemachus himself rises to meet them. He challenges the suitors with his divinely-inspired courage, and, though not completely effective, he surprised them a great deal with his authority ? as he did with his own mother in later books. Telemachus undoubtedly gains a new awareness, not only about his father, but also about the kingdom, his mother, and the role he needed to play. By the end of his long emotional journey, Telemachus realizes what it takes to be a man; a feat which could not have been possible without his escapades to Pylos and Sparta. The key moment, the point at which Telemachus exceeds even his own expectations if not dreams, comes when Penelope offers the challenge of Odysseus' bow. Each of the suitors tries and fails, but Telemachus makes the same bid for his birthright; he could have strung the bow, but for his father's signal not to. Had Telemachus succeeded, he would have been fully grown, but at the mercy of the vengeful suitors. Odysseus' revelation catches them off-guard enough to make his assault. Telemachus, we can safely assume, will someday assume his father's place as hero and king of Ithaca, because he undergoes parallel ordeals and is a match in strength and courage. The Odyssey creates a parallel for readers, between Odysseus and Telemachus, father and son. Telemachus learns the role of his father, the king of Ithaca, in order to follow in his footsteps. The two are compared in the poem from every aspect, Telemachus at home often acting as a distant foil for Odysseus. However, in analyzing The Odyssey, one may also presume that Homer had not intended for the Telemachus to be as great a hero as his father had. This may be due to the fact that he never fought in the Trojan War (his setting, unlike his father's, is a time of peace); but more notably, although he has matured, Telemachus never has the opportunity to learn through hardship, like his father. Ancient Greek Flood Myth of Deucalion and Pyrrha

Ancient Greek Flood Myth of Deucalion and Pyrrha The story of Noahs ark is not the only flood story in mythology: There are many others. The story of Deucalion and Pyrrha is the Greek version. Like the version found in the Old Testament, in the Greek version, the flood is a means to punish mankind. The Flood in the Context of Greek Mythology According to Hesiods Theogony, there were five â€Å"ages of man†: the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Ages, the Age of Heroes, and the Iron Age. The Golden Age was a time of virtue and plenty under the leadership of the Titan Cronus. This delightful period, however, ended in a war when the children of Cronus joined together to battle against the Titans. The Silver Age began after Cronus was deposed by his children, led by Zeus. Now, instead of the Titans, the world was ruled by the Olympians. Less brilliant as the Golden Age, the Silver Age was a time during which human beings refused to obey the gods. Zeus ended the Silver Age by killing the humans who had displeased him and sending them to the underworld. After a period of time, Zeus decided to create a new type of human being. The men of the Bronze Age were strong and aggressive, with weapons, armor, and homes made of bronze. These terrible men worshiped the war god Ares, ate the hearts of their enemies, and finally destroyed one another.Disappointed by the Bronze men, Zeus sent a great flood. The flood was followed by a new era called the Age of Heroes, during which the gre at Trojan wars were fought. Great men were born during this era; after their deaths, they spent eternity in the delightful Elysian Fields. Finally, after the heroes had played their role, Zeus created the Age of Iron. As with all the other ages, it is doomed to a final failure, at which point Zeus will return to remake the world. The Story of the Flood Warned by his father, the immortal Titan Prometheus, Deucalion built an ark to survive the coming Bronze Age-ending flood that Zeus sent to punish mankind for its wickedness. Deucalion and his cousin-wife, Pyrrha (daughter of Prometheus brother Epimetheus and Pandora), survived for 9 days of flooding before landing at Mt. Parnassus. All alone in the world, they wanted company. In answer to this need, the Titan, and goddess of prophecy Themis cryptically told them to throw the bones of their mother behind them. They interpreted this as meaning throw stones over their shoulders onto Mother Earth, and did so. The stones Deucalion threw became men, and those Pyrrha threw became women. Deucalion and Pyrrha settled in Thessaly where they produced offspring the old-fashioned way. Their two sons were Hellen and Amphictyon. Hellen sired Aeolus (founder of the Aeolians), Dorus (founder of the Dorians), and Xuthus. Xuthus sired Achaeus (founder of the Achaeans) and Ion (founder of the Ionians).

OB Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

OB - Assignment Example Initially, when one is trying to influence others, resistance occurs. This was obviously demonstrated in the film when Juror number 8 stated the reasons why he voted for the â€Å"not guilty† verdict against the boy who was accused of killing his father. Given the responsibility to weigh the facts presented during the trial, Fonda’s character in the movie questioned these facts that were presented during the trial. He tried to make sense of the various situations that were probably not given as much argument in the courtroom by demonstration. There was also the pressure tactic that Fonda’s character used in the film when he made the other men realize the weight of the â€Å"not guilty† verdict to the boy. Should the law execute the boy for a crime he did not commit since the jury decided to deliver a guilty verdict, his precious life would be wasted. Although some of the jurors remain oblivious of this horrible fate that the boy would end up with when they give a guilty verdict, there were still a few who could not afford to have a young man be put on an electric chair especially when during trial, there exists a reasonable doubt about the testimonies and evidences that were presented. On the basis of the rational persuasion tactic that was evidently used by Fonda’s character to influence the other members of the jury, his subtle way of disagreeing to the rest of the jury’s decision of the verdict has greatly affected their opinion of him in the application of reason in decision-making. His character did not show any aggressive behavior in making the others understand his judgment on the case, particularly with the accused. Only when there were several members of the jury believed in his reasons did he start to become aggressive in influencing the rest of the jury who thought the boy was guilty of killing his father. Unlike other members of the jury who were influenced by their own personal judgments and prejudices, Fonda’s

Edgar Allen Poe and Humor Essay -- Edgar Allen Poe Humorous Essays

Edgar Allen Poe and Humor Edgar Allen Poe is most often recognized, and certainly most famous, for his poem â€Å"The Raven† as well as other decidedly dark and often gothic poems and stories, stories such as â€Å"The Fall of the House of Usher,† â€Å"The Telltale Heart† â€Å"The Cask of Amontillado.† He also wrote many others mostly involving rather macabre, dark topics and characters as well as heavy themes such as insanity, madness, incest, murder and revenge. While this reputation is certainly well earned there is another side of Poe that is not quite so obvious. Poe was also a master of humor, especially in the use of parody and satire. One might ask how is it that a writer with such an inclination towards the darker side of humanity can possibly write humorously, and do it with such skill. Poe’s brand of humor is decidedly different than that which the mainstream contemporary audience is used to and can readily understand, but it is there if one cares to look cl osely. The style of Poe’s humor is not like that of the mainstream humorous writers in that he does not use the common comic strategies, but he instead â€Å"was able to turn his wit on the masses of society or their rulers with trenchantly satiric effect† by creating situations so ridiculous and outrageous that it becomes hysterical (Budd 133). Or as John Bryant says â€Å"he was a satirist specializing in burlesque, parody, and hoax. Humor was not his style, nor benevolence his manner; †¦ Poe’s barbed humorous stories are driven by caricature rather than character† (88). Some of Poe’s more humorous stories are â€Å"How to Write a Blackwood Article,† and â€Å"A Predicament,† and maybe not so obviously â€Å"The Murders in the Rue Morgue.† In a close look at â€Å"How to Write a Blackwoo... ...er because â€Å"his well known theory of the short story consistently emphasizes the importance of each and every detail in constructing the effect that †¦ an author of a short story has to have clearly in mind before beginning the task of composition† (Haugen 102). It may not be what the casual reader of Poe is expecting, or even wanting, but it is exactly what Poe intended and in truth that is what makes it humorous. Works Cited Bryant, John. Negative Effects of Technology on Kids

Are you aware of what’s happening in the present? Youth has becoming more active in using the internet and other modern technology nowadays. But do you know what the effects of this are? After you took long hours in front of the computer, are you dizzy and running out of breath? Feeling thirsty and very hot, your eyes can’t see clearly, and your hands and fingers are shaking and tired of typing? Do you also know that if that is repeatedly happening to you, it may lead to a disorder or illness you haven’t known for sure? Too much radiation is bad for us and has bad effects to our health, so be aware.Technology does not only affect our health, but also other aspects of our life. As I browse the internet, I have come across this article entitled The Effects of Modern Technology on Kids by Lisa Evans. This tackles about the four negative effects of technology on kids. First is the effect on brain development of a child. UCLA Professor Patricia Greenfield said that wh ile students create multitasking ability and visual reasoning skills which enable them to see and process information quickly, their attention span has also decreases. In a result, they are having a hard time to solve more complex problems which require time and concentration. Technology makes the thinking skills weak and although it strengthens visual reasoning skills, it also contributes to poor eye sight. Second is about the disadvantages on immediate access to information. With the internet becoming the source of all, students tend to become lazy and just depend on all the information given from the internet. But anyone who is not so careful and knowledgeable about surfing the internet may lead to a danger. Not all the information there are facts, truthful, and reliable because most of them are edited, and some sites are x-rated or pornographic, so it is very important for the parents to monitor their children about the source they will find. Third, concerning about social relatio nships, modern technology has also affected this. Instant messaging through cell phones and chatting through social networking sites have been a way to communicate of the present generation. Because of this, youth became used to keep in touch with other people impersonally. In addition, they are not anymore going outside their houses to play with other children, and socialize or talk to other people. Last is the effect of technology on the health of youth. More and more students at this time are suffering to neck and back pain because of improper posture using laptops and computers. According to Ken Harwood of the American Physical Therapy Association, there is also an increase in the diagnosis of repetitive stress injuries among the kids with the age of at least 8 years old.In the final analysis, although innovation and improvement on technology brings about development and benefits to people, we can still identify the disadvantages of it to our lives especially to youth. We should be responsible in using modern technology because every act we do affects us. It is better to be careful than to take the risk of doing the things which entertain us, but have negative results. Before we end up regretting in doing the wrong thing, let us think first and follow the right path.
